#14 – ’70s Refrigerator Green

19 Sep

Sometimes, colors come through your life that completely change your life. This hasn’t ever happened to me, but I am sure someone thinks that. And when someone is thinking that, I hope it is about this color, ’70s Refrigerator Green. I really would like to have fond memories of this color, but at least I have a single OK memory of it. I was sitting in Herald Park in the middle of Manhattan, NY. The weather was a gorgeous 68 degrees and I was having lunch with a chair. Much like the chair from Shannon, Ireland, this chair has seen a lot of butts, but I feel this chair saw a lot of lost butts. Everyone I saw in that park wasn’t too concerned that they were letting an absolutely beautiful day in New York City pass them by, they were more worried about making their next scheduled event on time.

I sat back, enjoyed the day, and listen to people try to find Herald Park on their tiny maps. We all moved from the park, but now, ’70s Refrigerator Green means a little more than nothing to me.

#1 – National Geographic Yellow

Happy Little Beach Towel

Happy Little Beach Towel

I was sitting on a lounge chair in Kuwait and realized my number one color was staring back at me in the form of a beach towel. It was soft and big, so it possessed all the right characteristics of a perfect beach towel. It also happened to be National Geographic Yellow. Perfect. This little towel had friends of different colors but I wasn’t too interested in them. Looking over the lagoon like pool at the hotel, I was just happy I finally found this color.

I am not a fan of yellow, so this was no easy task. I often pass by yellows without a second glance, but this one was pretty, and it was keeping me dry. Now, the happy little towel is probably keeping someone else dry … or it’s wet in the washer. What an eventful life.

#17 – Safety Cone Orange

20 Aug

Last week, I bought the cute little travel journal with all kinds of oddities that should be added when documenting your trip. I liked this activity quite a bit so I decided to start by sharing this one. In  the journal, it gave 20 colors that you are encouraged to find throughout your travels and tell where you find them.

Earlier this week, I found Safety Cone Orange in a lonely airport chair in Shannon, Ireland. The chair looked defeated in an empty wing and gave off the impression that someone forgot it when they were remodeling from the not-so-hot 70s look. He has seen many asses: big, small, american, african, angry butts for missing their flights, and happy butts that can’t wait to get to their next destinations. But that day, the lonely chair happened to be my number 17 color, safety cone orange. So once they remodel and rip the poor chair out, the chair can be abandoned in a junk yard knowing he meant something, to someone.

I’m official!

20 Aug

I finished flight attendant training last week and I can’t be more excited! This is going to easily be the coolest job ever. A girl on my flight to Ireland put it the best, “We are rockstars on a budget.” That is exactly right. Goodbye Public Relations, hello world travel!

Preparation

3 Jul

I started flipping through my training packet and I am a little freaked out. I need to go shopping this week for stuff for training, and re-educate myself on geography. It’s not my strongest subject but let’s just hope the pilot knows where he is going. Count down: T-MINUS 10 DAYS

My next adventure

21 Jun

Whew. I was down for a few, but now I’m back! I decided San Diego wasn’t a good fit and moved back to Tulsa to regroup, think about life and decide my next move. I have been waitressing for the last couple of months and was fortunate enough to have my next opportunity come my way. I was recently invited to start training with Omni International as a flight attendant and I can not be more excited! I think this will be a perfect mix of what I like doing: waitressing, PR and of course– traveling! I will primarily be doing international flights (the way I understood it) and will be loving every second of it. I am excited to be back in the game of life and blogging about my upcoming adventures! So please fasten your seat belts and enjoy the flight.

The Feather Extensions

6 Mar

So I broke down last night and gave into one of the latest trends, feather hair extensions. I really wanted to do it when I was at Lake Tahoe a few weeks back,  but they were charging $30 a strand! I found this little place in Clairemont and they only cost $5 each and then I WOULD HAVE SWORN she said $1 to put it in. I bought two strands thinking the grand total would come out to $12. Instead, this crazy old lady pulled a fast one on me and I paid $10 for the feathers, and $10 for her putting them in. I guarantee I am not going back to her!

Whatever, I almost paid $30 for one so I am going to let this garbage truck roll right past me. But, that wasn’t the most shocking thing for me. She then told me I should get my hair “air brushed” I am not familiar with this. She then shows me pictures of girls with designs literally airbrushed on their hair. She said they could even add rhinestones to the design. What girls are doing this? I can just see men now clarifying what girl they want to hook up with based on their hair design, “I’m taking home the zebra tonight!” These airbrushed designs are only good until you wash your hair… not worth it.

So for tonight, my bohemianism is going to stop with hair feathers, and I honestly don’t know if I am fully committed to them. I like change so it will work for now. Maybe next week I will go get a dragon airbrushed on my hair.
